Technical Analyst since 1979!
Author of the bestseller "The Joseph Cycle - Will the STI rise to 4300?"

Hi

I am Simon Sim, "Gurusim" and "Doctor" to my dealers and bosses at UBS (1985-1998). I am the resident Technical Analyst here, as well as webmaster, software designer, trading consultant, lecturer, Mentor on Trading and Technical Analysis. I am also the author of the bestselling book, titled - "The Joseph Cycle - Will the STI rise to 4300?" printed in January 2004. In May 2005, I published my second book, a self-improvement category, titled "Survival Rules and Habits - A Legacy for my Children". The book was translated into Vietnamese. I am currently, working on my third book, this time a financial book titled "Rules of Trading and Wisdom" which should be ready before the year end. I wrote, designed, layout, color, etc and published all my books! 100% DIY.

My brush with Technical Analysis started in 1979 when the MAS launched the Gold Bullion industry. I decided to be a pioneer and joined the new industry, giving up the recession-hit shipbuilding business.

I started my apprenticeship at Sin Huat Bullion and learnt a handful of old trading tricks from the maestros of rubber trading industry who were also licensed gold exchange operators.

It was a booming business then; gold shot up from U$250 an ounce to $950 an ounce, narrowly missing the psycholgical $1000 mark. I participated in this mega bull run, rode the collapse and meltdown, and learnt the easy and hard way to survive. In 1980 I began studying the STI and watched the many booms and busts.

God's blessings, Union Bank of Switzerland had a new CEO in 1985. The first thing he did was to immediately employ a Technical Analyst. He was a forward looking CEO and understand the critical importance of a good Technical Analyst and the added value of Technical Analysis in the support of his dealers. I ended up serving UBS from 1985 till the merger with SBC in January of 1998; and served my last day on 31st July 1998. It was the most memorable heyday of my professional Technical Analyst career. I called the US$ top, the US interest rate top, the Australian $ top, and many many major tops and bottoms.

As a fulltime Technical Analyst, the world was my markets: currencies, stocks, interest rates, commodities, spreads, swaps etc; and all the dealers and clients were my customers. I conducted training courses for them, held private tutorial/consultation clinic for dealers in bad patch, gave seminars to clients from central banks, training of dealers etc.

The merger came with a golden handshake and as my philosophy goes: Never refuse a windfall. I left the bank and decided to spend 2 years re-writing and completing my "Technical Analysis Software". But too bad. When I finished the task, Nasdaq and the world went into a tailspin from March 2000 till now.

In July 2001, I decided to set up a website offering electronic chartbook using my software. To save cost, I became my own webmaster. In November of 2001, EChartbook came to life!

You will ask: Why Echartbook? Internet offers an individual the cheapest means of setting up a business. Printing is costly and limited. So I decided to publish my charts on the web. From that idea, EChartbook was born. Then we expanded the web to include trading ideas, education and training, history and archive; all sort of information that will benefit a stock investor. I came from the bank and realized the average investor's disadvantage. So one of my mission is "To level the playing field for all investors."

Technical Analysis is now an important part and parcel of forecasting and an important tool for traders and speculators. With the advent of mathematical models and mechanical/artificial intelligence, Technical Analysis is becoming part art and part science. Today, it is impossible to understand the market if the trader does not include Technical Analysis into the price equation. In fact, the volume of trading based on pure Technical Analysis is beyond imagination. EChartbook provides pure and advanced technical analysis information in an easy to understand format.
